A large part of depth in a drawing has to do with contour, both explicit and implied. Contour lines are lines that denote the shape of an object, rather than just its outer rim. You use contour lines but you use them in such a way that each part of a drawing either feels very harsh and rigid or just flat. One thing you should learn how to use properly are implied contours, where you only illustrate a small portion of a contour line in such a way that a person's eye 'draws' the rest of it.
